An overview of current rules and practical guidance for supervision of prelicensed clinicians pursuing licensure as a California LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW.
6 hours CE - Meets BBS renewal requirement for supervisors
Supervisors of California BBS Associates (and MFT trainees) must complete 15 hours of initial training in supervision, and 6 hours of additional training in each license renewal period. This course is designed to meet the renewal requirement.
Supervision is at the heart of the apprenticeship model in training new mental health professionals. Great supervisors create new therapists who feel motivated and inspired as they continue their own journeys as providers. This course covers fundamental elements of supervision of California Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFTs), Associate Professional Clinical Counselors (APCCs), Associate Clinical Social Workers (ASWs), and Marriage and Family Therapist trainees. Emphasis is placed on California laws and regulations surrounding supervision, including the California Supervision Agreement, creating the required Supervision Plan, technology-based supervision, and the required formal evaluation of supervisees. Additional topics include the role of the supervisor, key supervisor functions, areas of difference, impairment, and burnout.
On-demand video format. Total running time 6 hours, 1 minute.
