Passing scores for BBS exams

BBSIn 2018, the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) stopped publishing current passing scores for BBS exams. Here are typical passing score ranges on the Law & Ethics Exam (MFT, PCC, and CSW) and the California MFT Clinical Exam. These scores and ranges are drawn from prior test cycles. Passing scores vary by exam cycle.
 

California MFT Law & Ethics Exam

Passing scores have typically been around 35 out of 50 scored items (70%). It would be unusual to have a passing score below 33 or above 37. Check out our 2020 study guide including practice exam and our online prep program.

California CSW Law & Ethics Exam

Passing scores have typically been around 35 out of 50 scored items (70%). It would be unusual to have a passing score below 33 or above 37. Check out our 2019 study guide including practice exam. (There were no major changes to LCSW law or the NASW ethics code in 2020, so the 2019 version is the most current.)

California PCC Law & Ethics Exam

Passing scores have typically been around 35 out of 50 scored items (70%). It would be unusual to have a passing score below 33 or above 37. 

California MFT Clinical Exam

Passing scores have typically been around 100 out of 150 scored items (67%). It would be unusual to have a passing score below 97 or above 103. Check out our online prep program.
